Are you ready for a gluten free Thanksgiving, or is the thought of a centered on food getting you down?  Don’t despair – I have plenty of ideas for making this gluten free Thanksgiving (your first or your thirtieth!) tasty and safe!

Relax – it’s going to be OK. :)

Here’s a list of some basic ingredients and products to get you started:

Better Batter Gluten Free Flour — 5 lbs – Indispensable for all of your gluten free Thanksgiving recipes – pumpkin pie, stuffing, cookies, gravy, rolls, and more.

Bob’s Red Mill Gluten-Free Cornbread Mix – a great alternative to rolls or for use in stuffing.  Delicious for anyone (gluten free or otherwise) and super easy to make.

Bobs Red Mill Gluten Free Potato Starch – This is my go-to thickener, perfect with a little cold water to thicken up gravy just before dinner.

Bob’s Red Mill Tapioca Flour – This is another excellent thickener, use much as you would with corn starch or potato starch.

Herbox Chicken Bouillon– This is a great all-purpose gluten free chicken bouillon.  You’ll use this year-round, but it’s especially good to mix in with stuffing to amp up the flavor, or also great for making a quick chicken broth for leftover turkey soup.  Yum…

Have some kids who don’t get into the traditional Thanksgiving fare?  Fill them up with Annie’s Gluten Free Mac and Cheese, and add some of this Full Flavor Foods Cheese Sauce Mix.  A little of the sauce mix goes a very long way.  I use about a teaspoon for every box of mac and cheese to boost the flavor, or in a cheesy soup, or in a casserole where I want to limit the amount of cheese but don’t want to sacrifice the cheesiness.

Bob’s Red Mill Gluten Free Whole Rolled Oats – Fantastic for apple crisp or a warm pre-Thanksgiving breakfast for your stay-over guests.

Pamela’s Baking and Pancake Mix – Great for easy drop biscuits, pancakes for the Thanksgiving weekend, muffins, and much more.

Hi Carol,

I imagine it’s around somewhere, but not in any store near me (Nebraska). They are a relatively new company, so expansion may be slow. I’ve only been able to order it, but it is less expensive when you get larger boxes. A 5 lb box would get you through two or three baking recipes, for sure. A 2.5 lb bag might give you one batch of cookies or loaf of bread, maybe a bit more. I’d say get enough one time that you could try it a few different ways before you made your decision.

I love it and have used it with so many different recipes. Free shipping makes it pretty much like finding it in your store. In fact, I’ve found that some of the specialty stores in my area that might possibly someday carry it have more expensive prices than things I can order with free shipping. Overall, I’m sure buying flour is much less expensive than buying pre-baked gluten free items.

If you give it a try, please let me know what your opinion is or if you have questions. Gluten free flour behaves a little differently from regular flour, but this is a pretty stable blend. Thanks for your question!

Guess what – I did find something on the Better Batter website.

Not sure where you are from or if you’ll find all the products you want to try, but check out this list from time to time. Again, I encourage you to keep the comparison of your local prices in mind from what you find online. Sometimes ordering online can be a better per-ounce or per-pound price.

Hope you get to try it soon!

Better Batter gluten free flour— try a Fruitful Yield healthfood store if u have one in your area. if they dont have it, ask if they can order it for you. some places will order an item for you.
usually any healthfood store will order an item for you, if its in their ordering system.

BetterBatter is expensive, but like many people, I just live in an area that will never have this product in any store. My first order was 2.5 pounds. Made a gorgeous cake, some rolls and had a bit left over. Next order was two 5 pound boxes. Amazon makes delivery so fast that I never have tried the B.B. Company’s site for purchase. Where do most of our fellow bakers buy?
