Burt’s Bees Gluten Free

Burt’s Bees gluten free products are well known for quality.  If you’ve followed the Gluten Free Cosmetic Counter blog for a while, you’ve seen the changes they’ve made in their labeling and gluten information.

Burt’s Bees does not currently provide a gluten free list for their products.  However, they now have a pretty clear labeling format in place.  Any ingredient could possibly contain or be contaminated by gluten is clearly labeled with the source (like “wheat” or “oats”). Another important note – even vitamin E is gluten free.  Anytime it’s derived from a wheat source, it’s clearly labeled as “wheat germ oil”, or whatever.

So simple now!  Print this page off using the “Printer Friendly” button at the top.

However, please please check any current Burt’s Bees products you have.  I had a favorite product that was safe, then not safe, and now it is safe again.  It’s just a reminder of how important it is to double check before you purchase anything.

And let me tell you, these are products worth trying and using.  I have some personal favorites.   Radiance Daily Cleanser smells like a delicate flower bouquet.  The Lip Shimmers have just the right amount of color and moisture, and my kids love to use them.  The Radiance Day Lotion absorbs quickly so I don’t have to wait to put my makeup on.

Here’s my compilation of Burt’s Bees current gluten free products.  I’ll check through this periodically, but if you know that a formula for a particular product has changed, please add a comment below. If you find Burt’s Bees products in a store, be sure you know which ones are safe! For example, one of their cleansers has avena sativa (oat) kernel oil and flour in it, which is one you need to avoid.

Thanks, and enjoy perusing Burt’s Bees products! (This page will be a work in progress for some time so please check back as the list grows.)

Carmex is completely gluten free, if anyone is wondering. I also just sent an e-mail to Blistex to find out if they are gluten free

Thanks so much, June. And please report your findings on Blistex when you hear back from the company.

also be careful to check if there is any petrolatum or petroleum in any of the ‘gluten free’ items. u dont want a ‘chemical” being absorbed in your system either!!!!!!

My sister is beginning a Mary Kay Cosmetics business. I want to be supportive….but you know how it is….does anyone know if Mary Kay products are gluten free?

Also, I’m desperate to find a good leave-in conditioner and body lotion. I also have to avoid soy and all other plant oild except a tiny bit of olive oil.

Hi!
My name is Daniella, and I was so happy to find your list of gluten free Burts Bees products. I contacted the company and they told me the same exact thing they told you. But, that left me to search every product and every ingredient. I am willing to do that, but then I found your blog and your list and I REALLY appreciate it!!!

I am ordering the lip products, and the Radiance wash sounds awesome!! have you used the moisturizers and serum that go with it? I don’t know if they are safe or not. I will check them out.

Thank you again for this awesome blog!! The plethora of information here is invaluable!

You are awesome!
xxDaniella

RE: Mary Kay products:
I had a consultant call the company for me and Mary Kay would not verify that any of their products are gluten free. They said that although the products may not have gluten ingredients listed, they have no way to know if there is cross contamination.
That did not sit well with me so I threw all of my MK in the trash. Very sad day. But if you think about it, if a company does not have enough control over the manufacturing of their products so they can tell you whether it might be contaminated or not, then their manufacturing process is somewhat questionable, don’t you think? There are plenty of companies who care enough about their products and customers to actually know what is in them. I’d rather support their business.
Arbonne is one of those companies who has a clear listing of their gluten free products and it includes just about all of their line. I don’t currently use their products but have in the past and they are wonderful. If you want to support a friend in direct sales, this would be a good one. Hope this is helpful.
Liz
